Taking the next steps on your educational journey.

The College Application process is overwhelming.

Even when a student is prepared and excited, the process of applying to college can still feel intimidating and bring up big questions like, “How do I know what college is right for me? What does a college want from me in the application process? How do I present myself in an authentic way?”

College is at the forefront of most highschoolers' minds as early as ninth or tenth grade. Add to that a college application process that itself is changing rapidly and is difficult to navigate and it makes sense to want clear guidance for your student and family.

Kate McEnroe Educational Counseling walks this path with you.

Like an experienced trainer or coach, Katie equips students and their families with the necessary tools to navigate this post-graduation transition with clarity, confidence, and purpose. Through hands-on help and honest conversations, Katie and her clients embrace every aspect of this journey—the joys, risks, and surprise—and unlock their skills and power.

Let’s Move

These are the most typical packages for students and their families.

Small Group Walk

Ideal for 10th–11th grade students who want to work in a small group setting. We use a tested self-exploration guide to shape each session and students leave with action-oriented activities to help them conquer the application process. Great for friends or individuals who want to share and hear ideas. We work up to writing essays and finalize our time with three workshop sessions to polish the main college essay.

This is the most budget conscious option.

Family Distance Run

This is the biggest and most comprehensive package, catering to customized individual work. We identify your specific and unique needs and we work hand-in-hand up until the end of the college process.

Application Sprint

This package focuses specifically on the application process. You will receive advice on application strategy and we’ll work together on any component of the application that needs support.

Specialty Movement

Bought hourly, this package is for special situations that don’t fit the other packages. Topics vary but in the past, this support has looked like tactical guidance and expertise related to parent-only needs, athletic recruitment processes, applying to an independent or boarding school, or focusing on educational pathways outside of traditional college admissions.

  • College Acceptance felt overwhelming; Katie provided exactly what I needed

“I began meeting with Katie in the fall of 2020. At the time the prospect of college acceptance felt overwhelmingly out of reach. I needed more than just someone to help me virtually tour and choose schools—I needed the encouragement of a mentor, even though I didn’t realize it yet. Katie provided exactly that. Without being overbearing or idealistic, she guided me step by step, keeping me focused and motivated until what once felt like an unattainable dream became reality: early action acceptance to Yale.

Katie’s support went beyond simplifying the college application process—it transformed it into an exploration of my passions. Through exercises like freewriting, we unearthed meaningful stories from my life. Together, we crafted a personal statement that emerged naturally from those small, authentic anecdotes, many of which started as journal entries. Now, as an editor at the Yale Daily News, I still feel a sense of pride in that statement. It stands not only as a capstone of my high school journey but also as a deeply personal reflection of who I am.

I can confidently say I wouldn’t be at Yale today without Katie’s guidance. More importantly, she helped me uncover my academic interests in religion and public policy—fields that now fuel my studies and give me a sense of purpose. For anyone seeking thoughtful, personalized support throughout the college application process, I cannot recommend Katie enough.”

  • My kids listened to her advice! It is much better for our parent-child relationship.

I am the parent of two daughters and relied on Katie for college counseling for both of them. They are very different kids, but Katie was successfully able to adjust in guiding both of them.

Our oldest graduated high school in 2021 so she had to apply during the pandemic. To complicate matters, she was interested in going to school in Europe. Katie kept her on track so that she could handle applying to schools in three countries without being overwhelmed by the stress. Katie got to know her personality and helped her create a narrative that explained why she wanted such a different college experience. Many college juniors/seniors have a tendency to think they know everything, and Katie was able to navigate that while making “suggestions.”  :)

The college process is one of self-exploration and Katie fostered self-review without being overbearing - so our daughter’s application was authentic. She is set to graduate from the University of Edinburgh in the summer of 2025.

Our younger daughter is a high school junior. We have had periodic check-ins with Katie since freshman year to get advice on classes, extra-curricular activities, etc. We walk away from each phone call with another good idea or two that my daughter tries to implement. Our daughter spends a lot of her time on soccer, both playing and coaching. It has helped immensely that Katie herself was an athlete, who can work with students on integrating sports into their college story. She has a way of connecting with kids so the kids can relate to (and listen to) her.

The most important thing I can say about Katie is that my kids listened to her advice! Having a college counselor helps take the parent out of being the enforcer-  of deadlines, college planning, etc. It is much better for the parent-child relationship. My wife and I give Katie our highest recommendation!

  • We sought help because we knew this process was critical to their future

Before working with Katie, our high school senior felt overwhelmed by the college application process. The sheer number of options, deadlines, and requirements made it difficult to navigate, and there was uncertainty about how to present themselves in the best light to colleges. We sought help because we knew this process was critical to their future, and we wanted to ensure they had the right guidance to succeed.

She helped our senior feel confident and well-prepared for every step of the application process. Her knowledge of application opportunities we hadn’t even considered, like the Glimpse video, gave our child a competitive edge. Katie’s empathetic and supportive approach made all the difference, as she truly understood our child’s strengths and helped them present their best self to colleges. Her guidance on essays and application strategies was exceptional, and she made sure we didn’t miss any important details. Thanks to Katie’s expertise and unwavering support, the process felt much less stressful, and our child is now on a clear path to college acceptance.

  • The key to my successful outcome was Katie insisting I stay true to my voice throughout the process.

One of the first things that Katie mentioned in our meetings was making sure that our sessions weren’t just repeating what I had already discussed with my school guidance counselor. Instead she wanted to make sure that she was supporting me with what I had already worked on, but also going over things I hadn’t covered at school that I wanted to get a head start on.

When it came to building a college list, Katie and I would go over certain aspects of each school and why I was drawn to them. She then proposed schools she thought fit with some of the college characteristics I liked.

Katie also made it very easy to express my opinions or feelings towards the essays. She would always ask not only what I thought about my writing but also how I felt about the edits she suggested. She would ask, “is this how you want it to sound? Or how do you want it to sound?” She asked me the question first and to help me create an edit which is an important skill. Midway through the process of writing my first draft of my personal statement, I wanted to switch the story I was writing about. Katie made me comfortable enough to tell her that, and she made the revision process so much less stressful than it would have been had I done that on my own. Her priority was making sure that I expressed myself as accurately as I could to college admissions officers.

Katie was also a tremendous emotional support. Even before I heard my admission decisions, she had a meeting with my mom and I about what the process would look like once I got accepted to the school or if I didn't. “If you get in, you’re done! The bulk of the application process will be over. You’ll have phases of panic where you see other people getting accepted to schools, and you’ll be worried you didn’t pick the right one. Then you’ll have the phase of nostalgia – trying to enjoy every moment of high school. And then, right before you move in, you’ll go back and forth between being super excited and terrified. And all these things are normal, and you can always talk to me about any of it.” This was one of the most reassuring things I had heard during the college process. I had never had a counselor or teacher talk to me about the emotional rollercoaster senior spring and summer would be, but Katie gave me guidance and offered her support when I needed it.

I was accepted Early Decision to my dream school! The key to my successful outcome was Katie insisting I stay true to my voice throughout the process.
